Mission of Kendriya Vidyalaya

The Kendriya Vidyalayas have a four-fold mission, viz.,

  1. To cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Government including Defence and Para-military personnel by providing a common programme of education.

  2. To pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education.

  3. To initiate and promote experimentation and innovations in education in collaboration with other bodies like the Central Board of Secondary Education CBSE) and the National Concil of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) etc.

  4. To develop the spirit of national integration and create a sense of "Indianness" among children.

In pursuance of the above mission, the KV system has following features and norms:

  • All KVs have common text books and bilingual (English and Hindi) medium of instruction.
  • All KVs are affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and follow a uniform syllabus of the CBSE.
  • All KVs are co-educational, composite schools.
  • All KVs have a common uniform for students to inculcate in them a sense of parity and integrity.
  • Teaching of three languages English, Hindi and Sanskrit from Class VI to VIII is compulsory. In classes IX and X, any two languages out of English, Hindi and Sanskrit can be opted.
  • Computer education is compulsory in KVs from class III onwards. The students at +2 stage can opt for specific computer related subjects as elective subjerct(s).
